Anne Ruthmann is offering a limited number of $300 boudoir sessions on Saturday, November 13th and Sunday, November 21st.  Anne is based in Boston, so she’s a much closer option for those of you on the east coast.  She’s also a brilliant wedding and portrait photographer who has had her photos featured a few times on Offbeat Bride.  I’ve followed Anne’s work for years, and I have oodles of respect for her (which is why I am sending a shout-out to her on my blog even though I suppose I could think of her as competition!)  I realize that Seattle is too far away for many people to make it out here to take advantage of my 2010 holiday boudoir promotion, so maybe Anne’s boudoir sessions would be an option for some of you east coasters.

Also, a note to boudoir photographers in other areas of the country: please drop me a comment, email or tweet to say hello…especially if you have examples of plus-sized clients in your portfolio.  I get contacted on a fairly regular basis by individuals who want boudoir photos, but can’t afford the trip out to Seattle.  If you work with plus-sized clients (and show that in your portfolio) I’m happy to make referrals.

First off, I need a space for my mini-session marathon on Saturday, August 14th. I’m open to renting an art studio space, but what I actually LOVE is working in someone’s home.  Here’s what I’m looking for…

Must have:

• Approx 450 sqft. in the room where photos take place
• A bed we can use for folks to pose on
• White walls (1 wall of color might be okay, depending on the arrangement of the space)
• Wood floors (concrete is fine, too)
• Wheelchair accessibility
• Reliable, well-placed electrical outlets

Ideal:

• Big windows/good light
• Brick wall
• Two additional rooms similar to the main room in terms of size and light

Studio apartments circa 1920s actually tend to hit a lot of what I’m looking for (though the accessibility can be lacking if not on the main floor), so I’d especially like to chat with anyone who is willing to open up your apartment for a day of sexy, fun, fat photography.

FOCS2010: Celebrations and Reflections, the inaugural symposium for FEMMES of COLOR, will create the opportunity-through workshops, community building/social activities, presentations, panels, and/or performances-to uncover and discover our similarities, our differences, our needs and how to support one another. It will serve as a launch point for a real-time and virtual nation-wide network of diverse individuals, prompt dialogue, and empower us to cultivate, sustain, and celebrate the vibrant connections we have made among femmes of color.

Call for Submissions – Workshops, Papers, Performance, and Art
Please distribute widely our call for submissions. FOCS2010 is going to be an amazing experience!

FOCS invites femmes of color from all over the map-community members, artists, academics, homemakers, activists, etc.-to participate in FOCS2010 as presenters and participants.

Submissions of all kinds are welcome. In particular, FOCS hopes that the intersections of femme with race, region, class, faith, access, ability, privilege, and marginalization will be talked about, given space, meditated upon, constructed, and deconstructed.

FOCS hopes to draw participants from across discipline, medium, and social boundaries. The conference encourages submissions from anyone interested, regardless of sexual identity (lesbian/gay, bisexual, etc.). FOCS asks that you read our mission statement before submitting. Though the POC community would not be able to live, love and/or laugh without its many allies, this conference is for self-identified femmes of color only.

FOCS is soliciting contributions from any woman who is interested, including (but not limited to):

• Workshops
• Performances
• Research presentations
• Skill shares
• Activist & organizational topics
• Visual art
• Video or film

I can’t even tell you how happy it makes me to see this coming together!  I’m thrilled to be providing a final product with such a lush, elegant feel.  I’ve never focused on the final delivery of products in the past, so this is new territory for me.  I’m really enjoying being more thoughtful and hands-on with the finished presentation.  The way I look at it is that I want to give my clients what you want – your digital images – in a beautiful, discrete package.  Plus, you don’t even have to bother wrapping it if you’re giving it as a gift.

Fat Bottom Boudoir is holding a Fat Bottom Boudoir Marathon in Brooklyn, NY on November 27th (the Friday after Thanksgiving), from 10am-6pm (exact times TBD.)

My best friend is going through a Master’s program in therapy right now, and they’ve been tasked with bringing in additional resources around areas that they feel are underserved.  My best friend—a skinny, white, Jewish, gay dude—wants to bring in some resources around size issues.  I’m the first to admit that I’m not the very best person to ask, but hey, guess what?  YOU all are!

I already sent him NOLOSE, Fatshionista, and Fat!So?, but I know there’s more.  He’s interested in websites, communities, books, videos, etc.  Whatever you got, leave it in a comment and I’ll pass it along.

Incidentally, he’s also interested in brining in some good materials around other issues that he doesn’t think are getting discussed enough: queer, feminist, kinky, race, etc., and he’d also like to introduce some intersectionality into the mix.  So…got good resources?  Comment here, and I’ll send them to him.
